I took this picture from waymarking.com, because the picture I took on my tablet wasn't very good and you couldn't read what it said and the sun shined in a weird way on the marker making it even harder to see. Anyway this marker is actually in front of the Old Nueces County Courthouse, which is one of the places that I chose to do my project one. This one, like the American G. I. Forum one, gives a super brief history of the building. It's really cool in my opinion that the building is still there. In Corpus no one really cares to much fort he actual history, but the courthouse is so recognizable and so many people think its haunted, it has a really strong cultural and sentimental value to it. I hear that in Austin, the building that are old aren't cared about too much and demolished (I'm guessing for space purposes), and I'm glad this one has not been torn down. It's such a nice building (architecture wise).
In the last week of doing the project is when most of the work was done. I actually started putting things together the other day and I was really happy with the way my exhibit board came out honestly. However it isn't as good as Rachel Ford's or Amanda Fernandez's weeblys. I chose their websites because they stand out the most when it comes to the way they look. Amanda did a really good job with the colors and I'm not surprised that she made something like this considering her artistic ability. My mom worked at Whataburger for a while so it has somewhat of a sentimental tug on me and c'mon! it's Whataburger! Everyone in Corpus knows what Whataburger is and it does have a lot of cultural significance here in this city and Amanda does a really good job at explaining that.
Now Rachel Ford's is really nice also because og her use of color and her topic. She did the statues in Corpus Christi and they are all ones that people who have lived in Corpus Christi can recognize quickly. Now the really big reason why I chose hers is because I respect Rachel very much as she also has so much artistic ability you can see it in everything she does...she oozes talent. One statue that really caught my eye though was the "Wind in the Sails" one. That one is apparently done by a man named Kent Ullberg and the man is a genius. I looked him up because I really liked the statue and Rachel's blog said that it resembles his many other works, and I thought "Good! This thing is a piece of art!", and true it is! I'm going to be looking him up more frequently now because I really like this man's work. And the website is very well put together. It has a lot of information on the statues and what they mean and it's nothing less than what you would expect from Rachel.

I had gone for a walk around my Grammas neighborhood and stopped by the old elementary school I went to and saw this at the front of the school. It's right where the entrance is, where the kids would be picked up after school. Because I was picked up behind the school (and eventually started walking home) I actually never saw it. I know that it was there and when we spoke about the American G. I. Forum in class I knew I heard (or read actually?) it somewhere. It gives a summary of how the American G. I. Forum started and why, and its nice that its at this school because the neighborhood is mostly old people from Mexico that had kids and grand-kids come to this school. I remember sitting in the front one time and looking at it but I never understood it and my friends could've given less of a hoot about it, but being older and having being taught about this makes me really appreciate it. (But I'm not too sure why it was put there exactly. I wonder if there were many Mexican-American veterans in this neighborhood?)

My third week was the most important because in this week I had (sort of) finished moving and was able to focus more on this project. I was able to go to the library and found an awesome article about the sailor on the Lexington. I also found a nice spread that had the history of the Lexington that I want to include on the exhibit board. When looking through the vertical file, however, I did not find the section that the library kept for any of my three other places. I was especially surprised that I couldn't find anything on the Courthouse. There was no one there to help me with the vertical files. A lady came up to tell me how to scan the articles i find interesting and told me that someone else would be up in about 20 minutes but after looking around for about 40 minutes no one came to help so i went to look for books downstairs (I don't think that the lady that came to our class was there). Over the weekend my mother bought my exhibit board because now we had somewhere to put it where it wouldn't get lost or damaged at all. Mine will be a bit rushed, but I don't want it to look rushed so I'm probably going to spend time late this evening on it. Overall though I think I have a pretty solid amout of information from the internet, and I found a few really cool pictures, especially of Bill Witt and the Courthouse. I'll have to take a few pictures of the Memorial building right now to make up for the lack of pictures there are for that building. You would've thought that if its the oldest building on the East campus there would be at least a few pictures of it.
My second week was spent trying to find as much information as possible on these places over the internet. I spent everyday on a different place except for that spill over from the Lexington over to Tuesday. My concerns were actually over going to the library and getting information from over there as well as finding interesting photos over the database. The second week there was no time to go to the library because I was moving but I got plenty of information about my first two places (Lexington and Courthouse) and my concerns of actually trying to find information on Bill Witt Hangar and the Memorial Building were even more of a concern because of their lack of information. At this point though I was trying to plan out how I wanted to put my exhibit board for the project together.
My first week doing research on the haunted places of Corpus Christi was difficult because I wanted to find places that had enough cultural value to talk about. There's many different stories on many different places here in Corpus, but which ones would be the most interesting to talk about? I chose the U. S. S. Lexington, known endearingly as the "Blue Ghost" because of her history with the Japanese, Bill Witt Hangar because of its elusiveness and its value to the older generation of Corpus Christians that trespassed on those grounds for a good scare, the old Nueces County Courthouse which everyone in this town has heard of some freaky ghost story at some point, and the Memorial Building at Del Mar College'e East campus. My concerns were actually being able to find information on these places. I knew that that was going to be a lot of good stuff on the Lexington and the Courthouse, but not so much on the other two.
